Band Directors Corner

In the past, this workshop has been free to attend.  As it's grown and we've been able to offer more benefits, it's gotten too expensive to not charge a fee.  A $75 non-refundable fee ($50 for registration and $25 for the mandatory Cadence dinner) is due no later than May 1st.  It is preferable for you to pay through the registration site, but we understand that it might be necessary to obtain an invoice or purchase order in order to get a check from your institution.  There will be a place on the registration to indicate those things.

On-campus housing is highly recommended.  The price for on-campus housing this year will be $225 for the entire week and is non-refundable. If you need to stay extra nights (Saturday, July 5th and/or Sunday, July 13th), there will be an extra charge of $30 per night.

If you are planning to fly, please fly into the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.  Shuttles to the campus will be available on Sunday, July 6th and returning back to the airport on Saturday, July 12th.  The cost of the shuttle is $10 each way and is preferably paid on the registration form.  The driver may also accept cash at the time of shuttle pick-up.

We MUST know by June 1 if you are needing to come in early on July 5th and/or stay late on Sunday, July 13th.  Shuttles will only be available to the airport on Sunday, July 13th.  If you are arriving early on the 5th, you will need to secure your own transportation to campus.

There is a Directors' Band that is directed by Professor Emeritus Dr. Gary Garner.  They play incredibly challenging music (Grade 5+) and prepare a full concert in 4 rehearsals.  Music will be available a few days before camp, if not before (see Directors' Band information above).  If you are in good playing shape and would like to participate, we would love to have you!  It's also fine to just observe instead.

We also have a reading band that reads grade 1-2 literature and you will need to have something to play for that - your secondary instrument.  If you plan to play percussion, you must bring your own equipment.

Since students are present, ALL attendees of the workshop MUST complete a background checks.  Only returning attendees that have indicated on the registration that they want to work more closely with the student groups will be required to do the safety trainings through WTAMU.  We estimate about 2 hours total for completion of everything.  Please be aware that the background check (and trainings where applicable) MUST be complete BEFORE JUNE 1ST!!!  If this is not complete, you will NOT be allowed to attend the workshops or any student-related activities.  As fellow teachers, we know you understand the importance of student safety, so please know that we will be VERY strict about the training requirements.

Photos and videos will be taken throughout the workshop.  By attending, you agree to have your photo/video used in future articles, promotions, social media, etc. by both Band Directors Talk Shop and WTAMU.
